Privacy Summary at a Glance
NoteMe is an offline-first, privacy-focused application. All your notes, photos, and personal preferences remain stored strictly on your local device. We do not operate remote servers to store your notes, we do not use advertising SDKs, and we never sell, share, or monetize your personal information.
1. Overview & Core Philosophy
This Privacy Policy governs your use of the mobile software application NoteMe ("the Application", "we", "us", or "our"), created and published for Android devices via the Google Play Store.
We believe that personal thoughts, journal entries, reminders, and photos are deeply confidential. NoteMe was intentionally designed with a zero-cloud, local-first architecture. When you use NoteMe, your data belongs entirely to you and remains within your device's protected storage environment.
2. Data We Collect and Access
Unlike many note-taking services, NoteMe does not collect, harvest, or transmit your personal data to remote servers. Here is an explicit breakdown of how data is handled:
A. Notes & Written Content
Any text, titles, categories, tags, and timestamps you create inside NoteMe are saved in a local SQLite database (noteme.db) within your device's sandboxed application storage. This content never leaves your device.
B. Photos & Image Attachments
When you attach pictures to your notes, NoteMe accesses only the specific photos you select or capture. These images are copied or linked directly within your local device storage. We do not upload your pictures to any cloud server or third-party storage provider.
C. Biometric Data & App Lock
NoteMe includes an optional App Lock feature using Face ID, Fingerprint, or Device PIN. NoteMe never accesses, reads, collects, or stores your biometric templates or credentials. All biometric authentication is performed securely by your device's native operating system (Android BiometricPrompt / KeyStore hardware enclave). The system simply returns an authorization status ("success" or "failure") to NoteMe.
D. App Preferences & Themes
Settings such as your chosen theme (Light/Dark/System), font family, font size, and watercolor accent palette are stored synchronously on your local device using high-performance key-value storage (MMKV). No user profile is created or transmitted.
3. Device Permissions Explained
In compliance with Google Play Developer Policies, NoteMe requests only the minimum permissions necessary to deliver user-requested features:
-
Photos / Media / Storage (
READ_MEDIA_IMAGES,READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE): Required solely if you choose to attach images from your device gallery to a note. NoteMe only accesses the photos you explicitly select. -
Camera (
android.permission.CAMERA): Used only if you choose the "Take Photo" action within the image picker to capture a picture directly into a note. -
Biometric Authentication (
android.permission.USE_BIOMETRIC,android.permission.USE_FINGERPRINT): Required to allow you to unlock your protected notes using your device's fingerprint or biometric sensor. -
Vibration / Haptics (
android.permission.VIBRATE): Used to provide subtle tactile feedback during app interactions (e.g. toggles, pinning notes, deleting notes).
4. Third-Party Services, Advertising & Analytics
Many free applications include third-party SDKs that monitor user activities. NoteMe takes a strict stand on user privacy:
- No Ad Networks: NoteMe does not include Google AdMob, Unity Ads, AppLovin, or any advertising SDK. We do not show ads and we do not collect the Android Advertising ID (AAID).
- No Analytics or Telemetry: NoteMe does not include Google Firebase Analytics, Mixpanel, AppsFlyer, or background telemetry trackers. We do not track which screens you open or which notes you write.
- No Data Sharing or Sale: We do not sell, rent, trade, or transfer any user data to data brokers, advertising agencies, or marketing companies.
5. Data Retention & Mandatory Deletion Policy
Under Google Play's User Data policy, developers must clearly explain data retention schedules and provide an accessible mechanism for users to delete their data.
Retention Period
Because NoteMe stores all content locally on your device, your data is retained solely for as long as you maintain NoteMe installed on your phone, or until you choose to delete specific notes.
How You Can Delete Your Data
You have total control over your data at all times:
- Deleting Individual Notes: You can delete any individual note, checklist item, or photo attachment at any time inside the app by swiping or tapping the trash icon. Notes can be permanently purged via the "Recently Deleted" section.
-
Complete Application Data Wipe: You can permanently wipe 100% of your notes, attachments, and settings in seconds by clearing app storage:
Device Settings → Apps → NoteMe → Storage & Cache → Clear Storage / Clear Data. - Uninstalling the App: Uninstalling NoteMe from your Android device instantly and irreversibly removes all sandboxed SQLite databases, attached files, and stored preferences.
- Data Deletion Inquiries: Because we do not operate remote user accounts or servers containing user data, we do not have copies of your notes on our end. However, if you require guidance or have any questions about data deletion, you may email our support team at support@notemeapp.com.
6. Security Measures
We prioritize the security of your notes:
- Application Sandboxing: Android's Linux kernel isolates NoteMe's data directories so other applications installed on your phone cannot read your notes without explicit authorization.
- Operating System Encryption: All notes and attachments stored on modern Android devices benefit from native hardware-backed Full-Disk Encryption (FDE) and File-Based Encryption (FBE).
- Hardware-Backed App Lock: When you enable App Lock, your notes cannot be accessed without passing biometric or PIN verification.
7. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)
NoteMe does not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect or solicit personal identifiable information from children under 13 (or under 16 in the European Economic Area / United Kingdom).
Because NoteMe collects zero personal data from any user regardless of age and operates completely offline, no child's personal information is ever transmitted, processed, or stored externally. If a parent or guardian becomes aware that their child has provided us with any communication, please contact us at support@notemeapp.com and we will respond promptly.
